Class Description:
Introduction to Weaving: Color is a beginner / advanced beginner level class for all lovers of color! Explore and analyze different warp and weft color combinations through learning how to weave a traditional color gamp project. Each participant begins by selecting colors from a wide variety of mercerized and mercerized cotton threads, designing and winding a warp, and setting up their own 4-harness Schacht loom. The second day will cover how to weave. Basic weave structures will be taught such as plain weave, baskets, twills, and selected hand-manipulated weaves. The class will conclude with cutting off and finishing the edges of your weaving. This class is designed for those new to weaving as well as for those with some experience. All materials and equipment are provided.

Instructor Bio:
Lauren Colbert is a Brooklyn based fiber artist and educator whose work explores color, connection, and play through woven structures and sculptural forms. Colbert began her textile career in costume design for film and television, contributing to contemporary and period productions for clients including Netflix, HBO, Hulu, and NBC Universal, an experience that continues to inform her narrative and material approach. She has been a guest artist resident at Peters Valley School of Craft and an Artist in Residence at the Digital Weaving Lab at Praxis Fiber Workshop. Lauren holds an MFA in Textiles from Parsons School of Design.

Please consider carefully before signing up for one of our classes or purchasing a class for another person. Due to the small class size for in-person workshops and the limited number of looms, each person makes an important contribution to the group dynamic and cancelling within short notice can make it difficult to fill your spot. If you do need to cancel, please be aware of our policies:
There are no refunds for class fees. However, if the cancellation is 30 or more days before the start of the workshop, you have the option of rescheduling for a different class free of charge. If the cancellation is fewer than 30 days from the start of the workshop, there is the option of rescheduling only if your spot is filled from the Waitlist or another person. You also have the option of transferring your class reservation to another person at any point. The closer the start date, the more difficult it can be to fill a spot from the Waitlist.
