On Pattern Weaving Intensive, Aug. 5-9 (M-F), 10-4pm, Catskill

$675.00

Instructor: Samantha Bittman / Teaching Assistant: TBA

On Pattern Weaving Intensive is a five-day class (M-F) with a focus on woven pattern and weave drafting.  This class is open to new and experienced weavers.  New weavers will set up and weave two projects exploring different loom-controlled weaves, as well as learn the basics of reading and writing pattern drafts.  Those with weaving experience will have the option between one larger or two small projects, with a focus on reading and modifying weave drafts, as well as a review of dressing the loom as needed.

New weavers, and those looking for a refresher, will start with the introductory weaving project, consisting of the basics of handweaving using a Schacht Wolf Pup 4-harness loom.  Participants will learn how to wind a warp and set up their own looms and learn how to weave loom-controlled weave structures such as plain weave, baskets, and twills.  For their second project, they will be shown 2-3 project options, which they can weave as-is or modify.

Experienced weavers will be shown a selection of 2-3 project directions to choose for their first project.  Examples of possible projects include Overshot, Monk’s Belt, Double Weave with pick-up, and Color-and-Weave.  The second project will be more self-directed and based on research using drafting books and online sources. Guidance will be individually given around project planning.  Optionally, experienced participants may decide to work on one larger project instead of two, either self-directed or based on a presented project.

Class will take place from 10-4pm each day, and the studio will remain available for use after hours.

Cancellation Policy

Please consider carefully before signing up for one of our classes, loom rentals, or purchasing for another person.  Due to the small class size for in-person workshops and the limited number of looms, each person makes an important contribution to the group dynamic and cancelling within short notice can make it difficult to fill your spot.  If you do need to cancel, please be aware of our policies:

If the cancellation is 30 or more days before the start of the workshop, you have the option of rescheduling or receiving a full refund minus a $25 processing fee.  If the cancellation is fewer than 30 days from the start of the workshop, this results in forfeiture of your entire course fee.  If your spot can be from the waitlist, then you will only pay the $25 processing fee, regardless of timing.

No refunds will be given on gift certificates.  (Updated 05/05/2024)
